This vegetarian gratin, designed for 2-3 people, combines navy beans, bell pepper, tomato, and aged Gouda cheese, all topped with a golden crust of breadcrumbs and cheese. The longer the Gouda is aged (4 months for mature, 10 months for aged), the more pronounced the flavour.

Directions

  1. Drain the beans, rinse them under cold water, drain them again, and let them dry. ≈ 2 min
  2. Heat the oil paint in a pot or saucepan.
  3. Add the chopped onion and cook it gently, stirring constantly. ≈ 3 min
  4. Cut the pepper in half, remove the stem and seeds, then slice it thinly. ≈ 8 min
  5. Mix the pepper, garlic, and onion together, then cook gently for 3 minutes.
  6. Add the beans and thoroughly heat the mixture, stirring constantly.
  7. Add the bay leaf. ≈ 3 min
  8. Cut the tomatoes in half, remove the seeds and pulp, and then slice them thinly. ≈ 8 min
  9. Grease a baking dish that is suitable for the oven. ≈ 3 min
  10. In a separate bowl, gently combine the breadcrumbs and grated cheese. ≈ 4 min
  11. Mix the tomatoes, Gouda cheese, and wine or broth with the bean mixture using a fork.
  12. Season with salt, pepper, thyme, and parsley. ≈ 2 min
  13. Mix everything together one last time, then transfer it to an oven-safe dish. ≈ 3 min
  14. Smooth the surface and cover it with the mixture of breadcrumbs and cheese. ≈ 3 min
  15. Place these hazelnut butter spreads in various locations. ≈ 3 min
  16. Place the dish in a preheated oven at 200 °C.
  17. Bake for 20 minutes, or until a golden-brown crust forms on top.
