Homemade wheat tortillas for burritos
Homemade, soft wheat tortillas, made with flour, warm water, and olive oil, quickly cooked on a griddle for 8 to 10 tacos or burritos.
These traditional Mexican wheat tortillas are used to make burritos and fajitas. The dough is prepared in just a few minutes with flour, hot water, olive oil, and salt, and each tortilla takes about two minutes to cook on each side. This recipe makes enough for 8 to 10 tacos.

Directions
- Heat the water to approximately 40-50 °C.
- Place the flour and salt in a mixing bowl or container. ≈ 3 min
- Dig a hole, then gradually add the oil paint and water, working by hand. ≈ 3 min
- As you add water, the dough becomes less sticky on your hands. ≈ 3 min
- To check if it’s ready, try rolling it between your fingers. It shouldn’t stick to your hands. ≈ 10 min
- Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Next, create 50 to 80 gram balls on a wooden board. ≈ 10 min
- Spread them out by hand carefully, using a small tortilla press, plastic wrap and a rolling pin, or the bottom of a pot. ≈ 4 min
- Cook for about 2 minutes on each side on a griddle or in a hot pan.
