Glazed pork (pork grilled in the Chinese style)
Pork with a glossy glaze is a traditional Chinese dish that is slow-cooked and marinated with spices to create a distinctive flavor.
Char siu is a Cantonese-style pork dish that is glazed with honey and spices. It is also known as “char siu” or “char siew” in Cantonese. This popular dish can be eaten cold or used in other recipes.

Directions
- Cut the meat into strips about 2.5 cm wide and 15 cm long. ≈ 8 min
- Pierce the pork several times with a fork. ≈ 3 min
- Combine all the other ingredients together to create a marinade.
- Place the pork slices in a dish and cover them with the marinade.
- Make sure that the slices are completely covered in the marinade.
- Cover tightly with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for 8 to 24 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 230 °C (420 °F) and place a pan on the bottom rack to catch the drippings. Cover the pan with aluminum foil to make cleanup easier.
- Secure the meat on hooks inside the oven, or place it on a rack.
- Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, or until the pork is cooked through. Baste at least twice to create a good layer of marinade on the outside of the meat.
- Allow it to cool while still suspended, or place it on a rack to cool.
- Cover and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
