Bulalo is a classic Filipino dish. It features beef shanks that are slowly simmered for hours to create a rich and flavorful broth. Serve it very hot.

Directions

  1. Place the jarret in boiling water for the first time.
  2. Discard this water and replace it with fresh water. ≈ 3 min
  3. Bring to a simmer over medium heat for 2 to 3 hours, until the broth is flavorful.
  4. Add water as needed during cooking. ≈ 3 min
  5. Add the onion, chives, and banana blossoms. ≈ 4 min
  6. Season to your liking. ≈ 2 min
  7. Add the tofu. ≈ 3 min
  8. Serve the bulalo while it’s still very hot. ≈ 2 min

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 stalks of Chinese chives, chopped
  • 1 package of dried banana blossoms
  • 2 blocks of tofu, cut into pieces
