Directions
- Combine all the fruits in a large bowl. ≈ 4 min
- Add the alcoholic solution and mix thoroughly. ≈ 4 min
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator.
- In a bowl, combine the eggs, sugar, and salt, and beat until smooth. ≈ 4 min
- Add the almonds and almond syrup, then mix well. ≈ 4 min
- Sift the flour and spices together, then add them to the mixture, beating until a smooth dough forms. ≈ 4 min
- Place the dough with the fruit in a cake pan and cover with parchment paper. ≈ 3 min
- Bake at 140 °C (275 °F, Gas mark 1) for at least 4 hours, up to 5 hours depending on the oven.
- Remove from the oven and let cool.
- The cake should be stored in an airtight container for at least 4 months. ≈ 3 min
- Traditionally, the cake is made on the first Sunday of Advent and “fed” with alcohol (brandy or kirsch) every 2 to 3 days until Christmas. ≈ 3 min
