Directions
- Wash the cherries, drain them, and remove the pits. ≈ 2 min
- Grease and flour a round cake pan, approximately 28 cm in diameter. ≈ 3 min
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
- Combine the flour with the baking powder and sift. ≈ 4 min
- Whip the egg whites with 90g of caramel, then incorporate the butter/margarine until you achieve a light and airy consistency. ≈ 4 min
- Next, gradually add the mixture of baking powder and flour to the butter and egg mixture. ≈ 3 min
- Caramelize the remaining sugar, then gently fold in the beaten egg whites until just combined.
- Pour the mixture into the mold. ≈ 3 min
- Distribute the cherries evenly over the dough and gently press them down with the handle of a wooden spoon. ≈ 3 min
- Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, during which the cherries will absorb the flavor of the cake.
- Remove the cake from the pan after it has finished baking, let it cool completely, and then dust it with powdered sugar.
