Directions

  1. Peel the pumpkin, cut it into small pieces, and rinse it. Peel the apples and cut them into cubes. ≈ 8 min
  2. Soak the poppy seeds in water for 15 to 20 minutes, then grind them into a thick paste. Finely chop the onion, if using.
  3. Heat some oil in a wok. Add the onion and sauté until softened.
  4. Add the green chili peppers, turmeric, and chili powder, then stir for 1 minute over low heat. Add the pumpkin and butternut squash, mix well, and season with salt.
  5. Add the pumpkin puree and mix well. Pour in 120 ml of water, mix, and cover. ≈ 4 min
  6. Cook for 10 to 12 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the squash and apples are tender and the sauce has thickened.
  7. Turn off the heat when the poppy seed sauce has thickened, and serve with hot rice. ≈ 2 min
