Khoresh-e alucheh, Zanjan chicken with sour plums
A specialty dish from Zanjan, Iran: chicken stewed with dried plums, dried apricots, and carrots, in a tomato-based sauce with fried onions.
This stew from the Zanjan region owes its tangy flavor to the alucheh, small dried plums from the village of Barghan. The chicken, which is initially partially cooked, is then added to the carrots and other fruits for a further quarter of an hour of gentle cooking.
