Afghan bread, also known as “Nan-i-Afghani,” is the national bread of Afghanistan. It is a flatbread, which can be oval or rectangular. Baked in a traditional oven, it is seasoned with cumin seeds and sprinkled with salt.

Directions
- Mix 75 ml of water, yeast, and sugar. Let it rest for 10 minutes until the mixture begins to foam.
- Place the flour in a bowl and add the salt. Make a well in the center, then add the mixture of oil paint and yeast. Mix, adding small amounts of the remaining water until a soft, pliable dough forms. Knead for 5 minutes. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Mix the egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg bath. Set aside. ≈ 4 min
- Divide the dough into eight equal portions and form a ball with each portion. Shape each loaf into an oval shape, measuring 20 cm in length and 5 cm in thickness. ≈ 10 min
- Create lines on the surface of the dough. Brush with an egg and water mixture, then sprinkle with black cumin seeds. ≈ 4 min
- Bake in a preheated oven at 175 °C for 25 minutes.
