Directions
- Create a small mound of flour on a kitchen table. ≈ 10 min
- In a bowl, combine the warm milk, crumbled yeast, and sugar. Pour this mixture into the center of the flour, then let it rest for 20 minutes in a warm place.
- Melt the butter and add it to the dough, along with the eggs, vanilla sugar, salt, lemon zest, and rum. Mix well.
- Cover the dough with a dishcloth and let it rise until it has doubled in size. ≈ 3 min
- Divide the dough into 10 portions and shape them into balls. ≈ 10 min
- Sprinkle a surface with flour and place the krapfen on it. Let them rise until they have doubled in size. ≈ 2 min
- Heat the oil in a pan and add the krapfen, turning them to ensure they are completely coated. Cover the pan and cook for a short time. Turn the krapfen over and cook them without the lid.
- Dry the krapfen on paper towels, then fill them with jam or cream and dust with powdered sugar. ≈ 10 min
