Onion bharta is a rustic Bengali side dish. Just a few onions, some chili peppers, and a touch of mustard oil are all you need, served with rice or khichuri.

Directions

  1. Finely chop the onions. ≈ 8 min
  2. If you are using dried chili peppers, you can lightly grill them in a hot pan, or rehydrate them in a little oil.
  3. In a bowl, combine the onions with all the other ingredients. Season with salt, add the lemon juice and the mustard oil, then mix thoroughly. ≈ 4 min
  4. Serve with hot rice or khichuri. ≈ 2 min

  • 7 onions
  • 3 to 4 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 3 to 4 green chili peppers, chopped (or dried chili peppers)
  • 2.5 cm of fresh ginger, chopped
  • 1 handful of chopped cilantro
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon of mustard oil paint
  • A pinch of salt
