Mi gomak is a Batak specialty from Medan, typically eaten for breakfast. It consists of large, round noodles served in a coconut milk-based broth seasoned with yellow spices.

Directions

  1. Boil the noodles for about 10 minutes, then drain them.
  2. Please revisit the spice paste recipe, using lemongrass, bay leaf, and kaffir lime leaves.
  3. Pour, stirring in, the coconut milk, then add the chayote and mix. ≈ 4 min
  4. Salt, pepper, and adjust the seasoning to taste. ≈ 2 min
  5. Just before removing from the heat, add the green onion. Arrange the noodles in a bowl and pour over with the broth.
  6. Serve with hard-boiled eggs. ≈ 2 min

  • 250 g of round Indonesian noodles (mi lidi)
  • 500 ml of light coconut milk
  • One piece of galanga
  • ½ chayote, cut into matchsticks
  • 1 Indonesian bay leaf (daun salam)
  • One sheet of combava
  • 1 stalk of lemongrass
  • 1 chopped green onion stalk
  • 4 tablespoons of a mixture of yellow spice paste (garlic, shallots, turmeric)
  • pepper and salt
  • 2 hard-boiled eggs
