This traditional Passover cake features matzah soaked in wine and a chocolate cream filling. It is prepared without an oven and is best served chilled.

Directions

  1. Place the chocolate, cocoa, sugar, and water in a small saucepan. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth and combined.
  2. Remove from the heat, add the margarine, and stir until the mixture is smooth. ≈ 4 min
  3. Let it cool slightly until it reaches a spreadable, non-liquid consistency.
  4. While doing this, pour wine over each matzah on both sides, until it is moistened without becoming soggy. ≈ 3 min
  5. Spread chocolate cream evenly over one side of each matzah using a spatula. ≈ 4 min
  6. Stack the matzot, with the chocolate side facing upwards. ≈ 3 min
  7. Sprinkle the matza with shredded coconut. ≈ 2 min
  8. Store in the refrigerator and serve chilled.

  • 200 g of margarine at room temperature, cut into small pieces
  • 100 g of dark chocolate, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of packed cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons of water
  • 8 unleavened breads
  • 240 ml of sweet red wine
  • 1 handful of shredded coconut
