Directions
- Slice the bread into thin pieces. ≈ 8 min
- Pour the milk, add a pinch of salt and the zest of one lemon. Caramelize 60-80g of sugar and whisk the eggs thoroughly. Pour this mixture over the bread slices, and let it rest.
- Peel the apples, slice them thinly, or cut them into smaller pieces. Wash the cherries and plums, and drain them. Wash the grapes, then soak them before draining.
- In a greased, oven-safe dish, alternate layers of soaked bread, prepared fruit, and optionally, port wine-soaked grapes; cover with more bread. Alternatively, mix the bread dough with the fruit and pour into the dish. ≈ 3 min
- Pour the remaining egg custard over the mixture, sprinkle with breadcrumbs, and bake in a preheated oven (200 °C) for approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
