Chimarrão is an infusion made from erva-mate (yerba mate in Spanish), a typical drink in southern Brazil and neighboring countries. The herb is prepared in a cuia and consumed with a bomba, a large metal tube.

Traditional method
- Heat some water in a kettle.
- Fill the teapot about two-thirds full with yerba mate. ≈ 10 min
- Tilt the handle until the erve-mate covers one side and leaves the other side open. ≈ 3 min
- Gently press the erva-mate into place without moving it. ≈ 3 min
- Pour préparer the chimarrão, pour the water into the cup on the open side and let it steep for 5 to 15 minutes.
- Seal the end of the pump with your hand to create a vacuum, and then submerge it in the chimarrão. ≈ 3 min
- Remove the kettle from the heat immediately after the first whistle.
Alternative method
- Heat some water in a kettle.
- Fill the mug halfway with hot water. ≈ 10 min
- Put the bomb in the water. ≈ 3 min
- Fill the cup with yerba mate until it forms a small dome above the rim. ≈ 10 min
- Use the bombilla to stir the yerba mate and water, moving it gently. ≈ 4 min
