Maispuffer are maize-based French fries cooked in oil. A simple and delicious original recipe from the Hainaut region.

Directions

  1. Heat sunflower oil in a large pan over medium heat. Allow it to heat until the temperature reaches 180 °C.
  2. Mix the flour and baking powder together. Then add the cornmeal, eggs, and grated cheese. Mix well with a spoon. ≈ 4 min
  3. Prepare three tablespoons of dough in the pan. Use a spatula to flatten the dough.
  4. Cook until the edges are golden brown. Gently flip and cook the other side for 1 to 2 minutes.
  5. Place on an absorbent plate. Repeat the process until all the ingredients have been used. ≈ 3 min
  6. Immediately wash the pot with hot water – even a dishwasher won’t be able to remove the crust residue. ≈ 2 min
