Directions

  1. First, carefully sort and clean the lentils. ≈ 8 min
  2. Next, soak the lentils in water for 20 to 30 minutes.
  3. This will allow them to cook faster.
  4. In a pot, cook the lentils with turmeric, a pinch of salt, and enough water over medium heat.
  5. Remove any foam that has formed on the surface with a spoon. ≈ 3 min
  6. Once the lentils start to soften, gently stir them to break them down slightly and create a thicker consistency. ≈ 4 min
  7. Some people prefer not to completely puree the lentils, while others prefer to leave them with a certain grainy texture.
  8. In a separate pan, heat up some oil paint.
  9. Once the oil paint is warm, add the cumin, bay leaves, and dried chili peppers.
  10. Once the holes appear and the smell is released, add chopped onion and cook until it takes on a slightly brown color.
  11. Next, continue to stir over medium heat, adding the chopped garlic and grated ginger, until the strong aroma disappears. ≈ 4 min
  12. Next, add the rice to a pot and mix well. ≈ 4 min
  13. Add water as needed to adjust the consistency of the rice. ≈ 3 min
  14. Slice the hot peppers in half and add them to the soup. ≈ 8 min
  15. Let it simmer over low heat for an additional 5 to 7 minutes, so that the flavor of the hot peppers blends well with the soup.
  16. Once the lentils have thickened, pour in the ghee and chopped cilantro.
  17. After cooking, cover the dish for a few minutes to allow the lentil flavors to develop further. ≈ 3 min
