Soft date, grape, and walnut bars, baked and then rolled in powdered sugar: a chewy and easy-to-make treat.
These soft bars, known as “Chinese chews,” combine walnuts and dried fruits in a soft, chewy dough. They can be enjoyed on their own or with a scoop of ice cream.

Directions
- Beat the eggs until they are frothy, then add the sugar. ≈ 4 min
- Add the flour and salt. ≈ 4 min
- Add the vanilla, then the dried fruits and walnuts. Mix well. ≈ 4 min
- Spread the dough evenly in a 20 cm square baking dish that has been greased. ≈ 3 min
- Bake for approximately 30 to 35 minutes at 175 °C (350 °F), until golden brown.
- Cut them into squares while they are still warm, then roll them in powdered sugar. ≈ 10 min
