Directions
- To prepare the dough for the Turkish delight cookies, begin by mixing together the butter and sugar. ≈ 4 min
- In a large bowl, add the sugar and butter (ground), and mix until the mixture becomes creamy and frothy for about 10-15 minutes.
- At the same time, warm the milk gently, then turn off the heat and let it cool down next to the other ingredients.
- Using a whisk, add the eggs one at a time to the mixture of butter and sugar, mixing well after each addition to ensure the eggs are fully incorporated. Then add the vanilla and lemon zest, and pour in the warm milk, mixing thoroughly. ≈ 4 min
- Add the flour and baking powder, and mix until a smooth dough forms. ≈ 4 min
- Cover the dough with cling film and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- On a clean work surface, spread a small amount of dough and form long strips. Then, shape the “tatlı örgü” cookies by creating a braided pattern. ≈ 10 min
- Place them on a large griddle, leaving some space between them so they can cook properly. ≈ 3 min
- Bake the sweet dough cookies in a preheated oven at 200 °C for approximately 15-20 minutes, until they are golden brown and fully cooked.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs and 1 tablespoon of water with a wooden spoon. Brush the tops of the sweet dough cookies with this mixture.
- Allow the sweet knitted cookies to cool completely in the refrigerator.
